Mercy Corps is an international humanitarian and development organization that helps people around the world survive and thrive after conflict, crisis and natural disaster. For over thirty years we have responded to disaster and conflict situations in over forty countries, assisting the most vulnerable among affected populations. In response to the crisis in Syria, Mercy Corps is distributing commodities to vulnerable households that have been affected by the conflict. In addition, Mercy Corps is offering skill-training opportunities to youth in Turkey to enrich their personal and professional development. This position is with the registered Mercy Corps Representative office in Turkey. Mercy Corps Turkey is currently seeking to fill the post of:

PROJECT OFFICER

(NATIONAL POSITION BASE IN GAZIANTEP, TURKEY)

The Project Officer will directly report to the FFP Emergency Program Manager (PM). He/She will assist the PM with day-to-day administrative tasks supporting the BREAD program and field team in North Syria. This will include: daily communication with the field team, gathering project reports and other information from the field, data entry, maintaining filing systems, verbal and written translation, and coordination with other Mercy Corps Programs and Departments.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of one year work experience in the project implementation preferably with an international organization
  • Technical knowledge and experience for the specific job
  • Understanding of the social, political, and economic context of North Syria
  • One year of experience in emergency assistance: distributions, community mobilization, etc. preferred
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in an emergency, cross-cultural and politically sensitive setting
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and synthesize information collected from field teams
  • Willingness to learn and to progress professionally
  • Good computer skills (mainly Word and Excel), in addition to e-mail
  • Excellent English and Arabic language skills are necessary.
  • Valid passport and Turkish residency permit is highly desirable.

SUCCESS FACTORS AND SKILLS:

The successful Project Officer should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to lead and communicate effectively with team members (international and national personnel) of varied work styles, to follow procedures, and to meet deadlines. Proven ability to learn quickly, take initiative and be accountable for results, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and simultaneous attention to detail. They would have a high professional standard of work, as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies. he/she should be a proactive and creative problem-solver.
