The Special Advisor is the organisation’s expert within Education and responsible for supporting the Country Offices and Head Office in the strategic development of high quality Education responses.
Job description
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Country Offices and Head Office in relation to the Education core competency
- Drive NRC’s strategic development of the Education core competency (innovation) and project manage the spending of any funds earmarked for programme development within the core competency
- Develop policies, strategies, tools and new approaches when relevant
- Contribute to NRC’s international advocacy efforts in relation to Education
- Contribute to the development of an effective assessment, monitoring and evaluation system to promote quality control and learning across global Education programmes
- Assist Country Offices and Head Office in recruitment of appropriately qualified project staff for the Education core competency
- Explore synergies and areas of cooperation with partners/other international actors
- Build relationships with key stakeholders at a strategic level and represent NRC in international policy forums related to Education
- Produce overall analysis and relevant data and conduct assessments upon request
- Keep abreast of developments in the sector and give presentations upon request
- Provide training in relation to INEE and other relevant technical standards when required
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience as a manager within the humanitarian field, including (ideally) experience of working as an adviser
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts, and ability to work independently in a result oriented, multi-cultural environment and manage conflicting priorities.
- High level of professional experience in Education, in particular in humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in drafting and ensuring implementation of policy/strategic guidance, and developing practical tools and resources
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Able to represent organisation at a strategic level
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of French, Arabic, Spanish or Norwegian would be an asset.
