Elva Community Engagement
Elva Community Engagement is looking for an ambitious intern with a background in humanitarian action and/or conflict studies to help us find, develop and advocate new ways to implement Elva worldwide.
About us:
Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, Elva Community Engagement builds pioneering web and mobile tools that connect citizens in Africa, Asia and Europe with humanitarian organisations to monitor and resolve local issues of concern. Local communities and international organisations are using our tools for monitoring a wide variety of important issues, including conflict situations, election processes and refugee movements. Our work takes us to different corners of the world, including:
- Central African Republic: a platform that helps humanitarian actors map relevant incidents and needs of conflict-affected and displaced peoples.
- Georgia: A project to monitor and address security incidents in conflict-affected communities, using SMS and smartphone apps (see here and here)
- Somalia: a platform that allows local organizations to carry out SMS polls on democratization issues amongst the general population.
- Libya: support local organisations prevent conflict using a mobile phone based reporting platform.
Our work is being recognised and supported by leading international organisations including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). We have presented our work at international forums, such as the OSCE Security Days, the International Conference of Crisis Mappers and the Personal Democracy Forum PL-CEE. Duties and responsibilities:
This internship can be performed from a remote location. Candidates from The Netherlands (The Hague or Amsterdam area) or the United States (DC/NYC) are particularly encouraged to apply.
The intern will assist the Management team in any of the following tasks:
- Monitor relevant developments in the field of technology, development and humanitarian affairs.
- Develop and maintain a blog on Elva’s latest activities, as well as any relevant developments in the field of conflict management, online and mobile tools for development and humanitarian action and social innovation.
- Help maintain and grow our professional network using various online (social) media.
- Explore, conceptualize and develop new ways of implementing Elva within projects and programs worldwide, with a focus on humanitarian action, conflict management and democratization.
- Research and develop funding opportunities.
- Develop and write policy papers and advocacy material used for outreach to donors, project partners and the general public.

Required skills and experience:
- Working towards or holding a degree in Humanitarian Action, Conflict Studies, International Relations, Political Science or any discipline relevant to the above duties.
- Passionate about the use of new technologies in humanitarian action and conflict management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven experience with social media campaigns.
- Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic an asset.
- Ability to work with teams from a distance and meet goals and deadline independentl.
